INNOVATION NATION NAMES INVENTOR CONTEST WINNERFebruary 23, 2011 (Regina, SK) Partners in Motion (PIM), an international media company, is pleased to announce the winner of the online inventors’ contest that ran in conjunction with PIM’s science and technology series Innovation Nation (www.innovationnation.tv). Carolyn Keane of Lake Worth, Florida won top honours for her PaintSmart-Trayz, a redesigned paint tray that is safer and more convenient. The tray’s vertical design is easier to carry on ladders and helps painters avoid spills. A video of the invention is available at www.innovationnation.tv/call/watch-invention-videos/paintsmart-trayz. “Based on our judging criteria, this product was the most innovative and has had the best public reaction. We expect to see it on store shelves very soon,” said Ron Goetz, Partners in Motion Executive Producer/Executive Vice President. Ms. Keane receives a suite of legal and marketing services to help her patent and sell her invention. The prize package is valued at approximately $31,000 US. The judging committee used the following criteria in deciding the winner: basic ‘appeal’ of the design or product; ‘patent-ability’ of the design or product; advancement of design or product; likelihood that the product or design will make an impact in the market (commercial application); and innovativeness. The committee also extended honourable mentions to the Snowscream by Owen Twitchell of Redmond, OR; the Right Brush by Mark Wholey of New Babylon, NY and the Smart Bra by Michael Swank. Videos for all the runners-up can be viewed at www.innovationnation.tv/call/watch-invention-videos. Content can also be viewed on the Innovation Nation mobile application that is available on iPhone and Android smart phone devices. Goetz says the judging committee had a hard time making a final decision. “There were so many creative, innovative submissions. It is inspiring to see the energy and passion that people invest into inventing things to make life better. On behalf of the entire Innovation Nation community, I would like to thank everyone who entered.” Contest sponsors included law firm Lambert & Lambert, design and engineering firm Enhance Product Design, Spread the News Public Relations and patent law magazine IPWatchdog.
